Maintain Healthy Blood Sugar

OVERVIEW

The body utilizes insulin to maintain a range of healthy blood sugar levels. When those levels fluctuate, serious conditions such as diabetes and hypoglycemia can evolve. People with blood sugar disorders must learn how to maintain healthy blood sugar levels to remain healthy.


STEP 1
Test your blood sugar levels with a blood sugar monitor, as directed by your doctor. People with diabetes often are instructed to check their blood sugar levels at different times, typically before and after meals and before bedtime.

STEP 2
Eat a diet high in fruit, vegetables and whole grains, refraining from an excess of animal byproducts and sweets. The Mayo Clinic report that the best way to eat to maintain healthy blood sugar levels is to ingest the same amount of fat, protein, and carbohydrates at about the same time every day.

STEP 3
Participate in at least 30 minutes of aerobic activities most days of the week to increase your body's sensitivity to insulin. Exercise lowers blood sugar by delivering glucose to the cells when they need it for energy. Activities such as brisk walking, swimming and cycling are good choice to maintain blood sugar levels.

STEP 4
Maintain a healhty body weight according to your height and frame, especially if you have a genetic disposition to diabetes or a family history of blood sugar difficulties. Control the onset of the disease by keeping a healthy weight through diet and exercise.

STEP 5
Take 1 g of cinnamon a day in either food or through a supplement. Chiropractor and natural  healing practitioner Dr. David William cites reports that conclude that cinnamon can help maintain blood sugar levels by activating insulin receptors in the body and making the flow of glucose smoother.

STEP 6
Add fish oil supplements to your  diet to lower triglycerides and maintain healthy blood sugar levels. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, studies have shown that those who take fish oil or other omega-3 fatty acid supplements such as flaxseed may lower their risk of developing diabetes.


TIPS AND WARNING

  • Check with your insurance to find out which blood sugar monitor are covered by your policy. Stay up to date on recent research and new alternatives that can relieve unhealthy blood sugar counts. As more research developed and new drugs enter the market, remain aware of the findings through regular newsletters or at site such as the American Diabetes Association.
  • Include stress management techniques in your daily schedule. Studies by the Mayo Clinic show that the people who undergo stress are more likely to eat improperly and skip their usually healthy routines.
